What is Paint Correction?

Paint correction is a machine polishing process that reduces or eliminates the appearance of scratches, water spots, oxidation, and other defects from the clean coat on your vehicle’s painted surfaces. The clear coat is a thin, transparent, protective layer on top of your paint that defends the color against all the elements and abuse. It also provides that shiny, glossy finish we love. If washed or cared for improperly, defects like swirl marks, water spots, haze, and oxidation can show up in the clear coat, ruin the paint’s appearance, and decrease the value of your vehicle. Island Aesthetics is fully equipped with the tools, skills, and experience to tackle any wet sanding, compounding, or polishing service, and a deep commitment to craftsmanship blended with exceptional customer service is the recipe for success.  Rest assured, you will be amazed by the remarkable transformation of your vehicle, coupled with an easy and satisfying process from start to finish!

Removing Swirls and Scratches

When you see a scratch, your eyes have captured a spot where a bit of clear coat has been removed.  Since it's impossible to replenish the lost material, addressing scratches requires paint correction to enhance the affected area, minimize or erase the blemish, and restore the reflection and gloss. Paint correction techniques include wet sanding, compounding, and polishing - all of which are abrasive processes, unique in their strength and force, that aim to reduce or eliminate the visual defects by removing clear coat around the defect until the surrounding area is flat and smooth.  Given the varying depth and severity of scratches, it may require employing one or a combination of these methods to fully restore the original finish.

Preventing Paint Defects

The flatter and smoother the surface, the more pronounced the reflections and gloss become.  It's worth noting that the clear coat is only as thin as the wrapper around a pack of cigarettes, highlighting the importance of sparingly performing paint correction.  Best practices during washing and maintenance are essential for reducing the risks of scratches and fine swirls, while also preserving your paint's pristine appearance over time. To lock in that beautiful finish, protect your vehicle with a ceramic coating or paint protection film!
